HEAD Coach
Luigi Costanzo has been coaching for 10 years and is entering his fifth season as the Head Coach of the Ottawa Junior Riders who have played in both the CJFL (OFC) and most recently the QJFL. The Junior Riders are back to back QJFL (Manson Cup) Champions.
Introduced to football at eight years old Luigi began playing football in NCAFA with the Bel-Air Copeland Lions at the Mosquito and Peewee levels. He also played with the Nepean Redskins (NCAFA) and Laurentian Lions (H.S.)
Starting his coaching career as defensive coordinator in 1999, Luigi was promoted to Head Coach of the Bel-Air Lions Bantam team in 2000 where he began to develop the Lions identity through Team Work, Discipline and Physical Play, all defining characteristics of a Luigi Costanzo coached team. In 2002 the Lions went on to an undefeated season and captured a Sullivan Championship (A Cup) victory.
Coaching his way through the ranks, Luigi spent a year with the Bel-Air Norsemen at the Midget level where they were finalists in the Frank Chapman Cup. In 2003 Luigi was named Head Coach for the host Team Ottawa (NCAFA) in the Under 19 Football Canada Cup Tournament where the team won a bronze medal competing against Provincial rivals. Luigi has also coached in the OVFL for two seasons with the Myers Riders Senior Varsity Team.
Luigi credits his coaching staff that have worked together for over seven years and earned the 2007 Coaching Staff of the Year honors in the Quebec Junior Football League.
Luigi Costanzo is a Level 3 NCCP certified coach. He is also a presenter for the NCCP technical program and is qualified to conduct the NCCP technical courses.
His other passion outside of coaching is his family. Luigi adores his patient wife Amanda and he loves playing with his two children, five year old Mia and one year old Jesse.
